The Ghanaian-American artist's sun-drenched video shot on the Volta River has shattered streaming records and cemented her status as one of the defining voices of this generation.
Amaarae's "Fancy" has become the most-streamed Ghanaian song of 2025, surpassing 80 million streams on Spotify alone after just three months — a record previously held by Black Sherif's "Kwaku The Traveller."
The music video, directed by Ghanaian visual artist Kofi Nimako, was shot over three days on the Volta River near Akosombo. The imagery — golden hour reflections, traditional kente fabric billowing in river water, fishermen at dusk — has been widely praised as some of the most visually striking work to come out of Ghana this decade.
"Fancy is about claiming your own definition of beauty," Amaarae told Billboard last month. "It's Ghanaian, it's mine, and it doesn't apologise for either of those things."
The song has also become an unofficial anthem for this year's Ghanaian Fashion Week, appearing in four separate runway shows. Designers have cited its blend of traditional and contemporary aesthetics as an influence on their collections.
